Coleman Dual Fuel Stove
Dana:
(now a Coleman Exponent dual fuel stove) - My first stove purchase was and still is a pretty good purchase. This particular stove can burn white gas or unleaded gasoline. It seems to be reliable. I continue to use it when the situation is right, but have moved on to the MSR Dragonfly for my main use stove, due to the separate tank and burner that allow me to carry the fuel on the outside of my pack.
Upside:
Duel fuel. Needs no priming, just pump and light! Its compact design weighs about the same as higher priced stoves. Flame adjustability is good. Very quiet operation.
Downside:
Fuel bottle is connected to the burner, meaning you need to carry it, fuel and all, inside your pack. I've never had a leak, but I like the versatility of carrying the fuel bottle separate. One time, a little fuel got on top of the tank and was ignited by the burner. Although it was fine, I could see where this might be considered a hazardous situation. All in all, the only REAL complaint, where I've actually had a problem, is the flame adjustment. It's under the burner in a spot that caused me to burn the tops of my fingers more than once while adjusting the flame. Optional large metal windscreen works great, but takes up a lot more room than a foldable screen would.
