Jansport Rockies

Dana:
Jansport Rockies 100 (Large) - My friend Christopher first purchased this pack. I was so impressed with its functionality, construction and comfort; I soon wiped the drool off of my face and purchased the larger sized model for myself. It has three outside pockets for easy access to often needed items, FOUR mesh water bottle pocket, a lid pocket, daisy chain connectors on the lid, plenty of lash points, a sleeping bag compartment (which I can't recommend enough), adjustable suspension, a top loading cavernous main compartment and a lot more. Jansport has restyled the Rockies, but it still appears to be very similiar to this model.
Upside:
- Quality construction backed by a lifetime guarantee
- Plenty of pockets (9) and storage options
- Sleeping bag compartment
- Comfort
- Can handle up to 7,000 whopping cubic inches of gear, yet also seems sized right for a two day/one night load.
Downside:
- Its size dictates that I carry most of "the heavy stuff" when my wife and I hike.
- Lacks a hydration system; Water must be carried in containers

Christopher:
Jansport Rockies (Regular) - I had three criteria when I was looking for a pack, internal frame, lots of pockets and priced around $200 or less. I found a pack that met all those and more when I purchased my Rockies. This is the older version that I happened to find on sale at Campmor a couple of years ago. It features three outside pockets, a lid pocket, a separate sleeping bag compartment and a top-loading main compartment that gobbles up the gear. The shoulder straps are easily adjustable to fit different torso lengths and the back and waist belt are thickly padded for extra comfort.
Upside:
- Lots of pockets
- Easily accessible water bottle holsters
- Additional outside mesh pockets for wet gear
Downside:
- When the pack is opened, access to the lid pocket is impossible without flipping it back closed.
