Potable Aqua
Christopher:
Considering the fact that the majority of our hikes were along or near a river, you would think that water purification would be one of the first things I would by. However, it took three hikes carrying over a gallon of water of water before I purchased and used this water purification method. These tablets work well (or at least work well enough that I have never gotten sick while using them.) The product I purchased actually came with two bottles, one has the iodine tablets and the other has a neutralizing agent that removes the iodine taste. The two bottles are small therefore don't take up a lot of space in the pack. They also cut down on time because you don't have to stop and pump, simply fill up your bottle, drop the first tablet in and about 30 minutes later drop the second tablet in.

Upside:
Doesn't take up a lot of space; know when it's time to replace them; fairly quick and easy to use.

Downside:
Having to wait 30 minutes means warmer water then purified water directly from the stream; chemical residue and build-up.
