Kelty Redwing

Christopher:
I purchased this pack for those warm weather hikes where I didn't need the extra room of my Rockies pack. So far I have only used it once for hiking but have used it several times for traveling. It fits perfectly in the overhead bins on airplanes. I purchased the older version therefore it has the diamond shaped lash points as opposed to the daisy chain featured on the newer versions. The pack features a large main compartment, two smaller pockets on the outside of the main one and two wing pockets. It also has two lash points on the bottom, two on the top and one on the back. If you pack conservatively, it can carry all your gear for a warm weather hike but be prepared to lash several things to the outside of the pack.
Upside:
- It's small but versatile; fits the bill when 5400 cubic inches is too much.
Downside:
- No water bottle pockets
- Non-adjustable torso
- Limited padding along the back
