Army Surplus Ruck Sack
Christopher:
The first pack I ever used on a hike. We've all seen the pack, Army green color, heavy canvas material, rock-hard shoulder straps, no waist belt, no padding, no compression straps. Basically a big canvas bag you stuff your gear in and strap to your back. Strictly no frills, and little comfort either. There are two reasons I used this for backpacking, I already had it and I didn't know any better. (And it only took me that one time to quickly know better.)
Upside:
- Price (around $25)
- Durability.
Downside:
- Rock-hard shoulder straps
- No waist belt, no padding, no compression straps, etc.
